About Me
My Story
My Background:
I graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. In 2008, I received a Master of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from UIC. I was always facinated by how the mind and body worked together even though western medicine often separates the two! For 10 years, I worked in hospitals and in the community providing rehabilitation to people that have had orthopedics surgeries (shoulder, knee, hip replacements), compression neuropathies (carpal tunnel, cubital tunnel, upper median nerve compression), brain injuries, and spinal cord injuries. I've also worked with adults and children diagnosed with neurological disorders such as PTSD, ADHD, and Autism. In 2017, I discovered the main and underlying cause of many of my clients difficulties was a breakdown in the mind & body connection. I began to study ancient eastern practices (sound, soft tissue release, aromatherapy, and breathing) that helped my clients begin to see results faster. For those with chronic pain, it was the first time seeing results in a long time.
What is Wholistic Occupational Therapy/Integrative Health? In the hospital, occupational therapy is often under the physical medicine and rehabilitation category. Outside the hospital setting, there is more opportunity to treat the whole person using a multi sensory approach. Integrative outpatient occupational therapy looks at how manual therapy, aromatherapy, sound therapy, exercise therapy, and the influence of nutritional habits/routines impact the musculoskeltal system. Integrative health looks to help you in multiple areas of your life just the current injury/site of pain!
